Just steps from Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and near Central Park and museums on the West Side.
With 413 rooms, The Empire Hotel really embraces its name. Rooms offer views of Lincoln Center or Central Park. Fifty of the rooms are suites, five of which have living rooms. Each space is decorated in rich browns, bright oranges and stark whites with animal-printed pillows strategically placed on chairs. Envelope yourself in Belgian linens and Frette robes. L'Occitane bath products are located in the spacious bathrooms.
The lobby is large, ornate and inviting. Take a seat in one of the plush couches or printed ottomans. The hotel has an indoor space available for meetings.
Eating and drinking
Why would you go anywhere else if you were staying here? The options are almost limitless.
Ed’s Chowder House serves reasonably-priced seafood in a casual setting. Try the Tuna Steak Frites or one of the signature chowders. The Lobby Bar allows guests to sip high-quality cocktails at the granite bar or on cushy couches.
Head up to the 13th floor Pooldeck at The Empire on a summer day for great 180-degree views. Cabanas are available for guests and you can order anything off The Empire Hotel Rooftop menu. The Empire Hotel Rooftop is operated by restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow (of China Club fame) and the 8,000-square-foot space is one of the hottest rooftop bars in the city. That's saying a lot since there are a plethora on the west side.
The hotel is well equipped for leisure lovers. Jeunesse Spa, a popular spot for area locals, is open to the public but offers 15 per cent discounts for hotel guests. A full-service fitness center is also available, as is a pool.
Service is extremely friendly. With so many rooms offered, it's quite seamless. I was very surprised.
Who stays there
Singles and couples. Europeans love the location as well as the decor.
A standard room is the way to go. Opt for a Central Park view room. It's not that much more expensive than the others.
