It's in the heart of the Theater District and close to Times Square as well. A perfect spot for tourists wanting to see a play on the Great White Way.
All 83 rooms reflect Art Deco style and pay homage to a time when travel was glamourous and available to only the rich. Many of the furniture pieces were custom-made by interior designer Thierry Despont. Cabinets are built into walls and ensconced in fake leather to mimic designer luggage. Several color schemes are used, from dark blues to bright yellows to blood reds. I preferred the last as it transported me to the 1930s. The hand-tufted Shifman mattresses are enveloped in Frette linens and you can't help but fall asleep atop the down pillows and duvets. Bathrooms have Asprey toiletries, mirror televisions and Toto toilets. Some rooms have private terraces.
Head to the Barrymore Suite if you're a film buff. Actress Drew Barrymore allowed the hotel to use her family's name for the 4,500-square-foot penthouse suite that features a glass spiral staircase, a heated terrace and four massive bedrooms.
The lobby is striking and expansive, utilizing much of the same design flourishes found in guestrooms. Business travelers can meet at The Club Room or the historic Stanford White suite. The latter has a private fireplace and terrace.
Eating and drinking
Cocktail aficionados recommend The Lambs Club Bar for its commitment to creating quality, classic drinks. Juices are homemade and ice is hand-cut. A number of local restaurateurs and nightlife impresarios combined creative forces to develop The Lambs Club Restaurant - an eatery that is inventive and convivial.
The Chatwal Spa by Kashwère has three treatment rooms. Small yes, but the spa makes up for its diminutive size with signature treatments using eco-friendly products. The fitness center is open 24 hours and features personal training and personal TVs.
Service is impeccable. You're treated like a valued guest.
