New York, Moraira – class is class wherever you go.

When restaurateur brothers Juan and Jose Moll decided to open a small hotel after decades of running one of the best restaurants in the region they brought their combined decades of training in Switzerland, and working in the Savoy in London and Waldorf Astoria in New York, to create a hotel that overflows with charm and delicious details.

Location

With its front door on a tree-lined boulevard and its back door virtually onto a sand beach, the hotel sits in two worlds, urban and playa.

Bedrooms

Wonderfully cheery and modern wallpapers cover the bedroom walls (I’ve never seen wallpaper in a Spanish hotel before!) Bright and airy, with lots of space, eleven of the rooms have views of the boulevard, Moriaira castle and the sea, and their partners look over the beach and bay. The Junior Suites have a very elegant sofa that turns in a bed big enough for two children. The mini-bar is the best stocked I’ve ever seen in any hotel, and awaiting the guests is a bottle of vino de la semana, wine of the week, and you can be sure it is good value because Juan Moll is a trained sommelier. The bathrooms give a five star touch, with toweling bathrobes and slippers (rarely provided these day – even the Paradors only offer them with their most expensive rooms). Big bottles of top-of-the-range toiletries are given instead of the tiny tubes usually provided. One of the touches that delighted my most were the champagne glasses in the bedroom, working on the premise that if you want a glass of freshly chilled cava from the mini-bar you don’t want to drink it from a tooth glass, do you. The four penthouse rooms have terraces, and triple glazing throughout ensures a good nights sleep.

Public areas

A small lobby has a few comfortable armchairs, more for waiting than relaxing.

Eating and drinking

An excellent buffet breakfast (with a full English for those who want it) is served in Espacio Gourmet Molls, the restaurant on the beach side of the hotel. An good menu of snacks and light meals would make many restaurants blush. For high quality a la carte, Restaurant La Sort is only five minutes walk.

Service

Impeccable with charm and a smile. For visitors with children who want an evening out on there own, babysitting can be arranged, and you can have complete confidence because it’s the babysitter Juan Moll uses for his own children.

Who stays there

Everyone young and old who love good, bright, cheerful and modern done with style. A fair number of visitors stay for a month or longer during the winter months.
