Star rating:
5 star hotel

4.5

Cool style with one of the best restaurants in Spain.

Bright, modern and full of life, the Hesperia is all about comfort and facilities. There’s something here to keep everyone happy - particularly gourmets. It has been very well designed by leading interiorist Pascua Ortega, but doesn’t feel like a ‘design hotel’.

Location

On the Paseo de la Castellana, so more in the business than the tourist area. There are loads of buses whizzing past though, so it’s easy to get around if you don’t want to get taxis everywhere. If you’ve been to Madrid a few times, you might enjoy being in this area. There are lots of good restaurants nearby too, as well as a few of the lesser-known museums.

Bedrooms

There are 170 rooms, including 34 suites. Design is pretty traditional, but with contemporary touches. Junior suites have Nespresso machines and Bulgari products in the bathroom, while the presidential suite has a fantastic roof terrace with a jacuzzi. This is a hotel for dog lovers, as you can even book a special pet room, complete with toys and treats.

Public areas

There is a huge light-filled atrium at the centre of the hotel and lots of stylish spaces to sprawl around in.

Eating and drinking

The Santceloni restaurant, with chef Oscar Velasco, has two Michelin stars. It is overseen by Santi Santamaria, one of Spain’s top chefs, who also devises the menus at La Manzana, the more informal restaurant in the atrium which offers seasonal dishes using top-quality ingredients. There is a sushi restaurant too, if you fancy a change.

Leisure facilities

There is a great gym on the top floor with panoramic views over the city.

Service

Smilingly reassuring.

Who stays there

Mix of business and leisure travellers, with a fair smattering of famous faces.
