Address: 25 Courtfield Gardens, London, SW5 0PG, United Kingdom

Star rating:
3 star hotel

3.7

Good value for independent-minded travellers.

I don’t like to be fussed over, so this hotel suited me well. The management has kept prices low by cutting out various peripheral services: no bar or restaurant, barely any waiting room at reception. Instead you get nicely decorated rooms with well-equipped kitchenettes.

Location

Just a couple of minutes’ walk from Earl’s Court tube station, Base2Stay is on the corner of a quiet square. It’s an unremarkable part of town, but the three wonderful South Kensington museums (the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Victoria & Albert) are only about 10 minutes’ walk away.

Bedrooms

Each of the rooms has a microwave, sink, fridge and kettle so you can do it yourself. Not a unique approach in London any more, but well executed here: the fridge is silent and the utensil drawer properly stocked with the cutlery and plates you need, rather than a token spoon and no corkscrew. There’s free wireless and pay movies (£2 a go) on the flatscreens, plenty of power points if you’re working. The single/bunkbed rooms I saw were barely wider than the beds, but the standard rooms are a decent size for the price.

Eating and drinking

There’s no restaurant, bar or breakfast room, but reception usually has discount vouchers for nearby chain restaurants and the kitchenette means you can make your own meals.

Service

Polite and helpful.

Who stays there
