4.5

Classy, small hotel with charming owners and ravishing views.

This lovely little hotel overlooking the fishing village of Llafranc only opened two years ago, but it’s been full virtually ever since. As soon as I stepped inside, I could see why. It’s the creation of husband and wife Miguel and Cristina, who built and designed the hotel themselves, and it’s a really classy combination of tasteful, classic decor, homely, personal touches, and fabulous sea views.

Location

On a steep-ish hill just behind the main Llafranc village, it’s about five to ten minutes’ walk down to the sandy bay with its fishing boats and the seafood restaurants on the promenade. There are gorgeous coastal walks in both directions, and other lovely coves and beaches like Tamariu and Calella de Palafrugell are a short drive away.

Bedrooms

The 17 rooms all have a really classy, country house feel about them. Think Cotswolds boutique hotel meets Cape Cod/New England traditional, with warm, stripped wood floors, light and airy pastel walls and distressed, hand-painted pine furniture. All the rooms have floor to ceiling sliding glass doors opening out to the balconies, and views out to the pink rocks, pine trees and shimmering blue Mediterranean in the bay. The bathrooms are spacious and, for me, one of the best things of all, the beds are super-comfortable.There’s free WiFi in both the rooms and the public areas.

Public areas

The terrace and lawns near the huge, oval-shaped infinity pool have fabulous sea views and plenty of sun-loungers. I particularly like touches like the Moroccan lanterns by the pool at night.

Eating and drinking

A generous, very fresh buffet breakfast is served out on the terrace, and they can also do snacks and light meals on request. If you’re going in low season, there’s also a lovely cafe/bar area where they have an open fire in the colder months and you can sit with a glass of wine, coffee or hot chocolate.
