4 star hotel

Spotless suites in a calm environment just off the Strip - great for families.

First things first – the Platinum isn’t a “scene” hotel. It’s non-smoking, non-gaming and there are no celeb-filled restaurants or clubs on the premises. But if that doesn’t bother you, it’s a brilliant choice. The rooms are great – all family-friendly spacious suites with kitchenettes – there’s a quiet pool, and free WiFi, which is my personal bug-bear about Vegas hotels. And it’s a quick 10-minute walk to the Strip.

Location

Two blocks off the Strip on Flamingo (a block further east from the Westin Casuarina). Although it’s not ideal – you see the backs of the casinos and their car parks, rather than a proper Strip view – it’s only a 15-minute walk to Caesars.

Bedrooms

As I said, all the rooms are suites, and they’re all a good size, with a separate living area and a properly-sized kitchenette. There’s a lot of space, so it’s a great place for families. In the bathroom, you’ll find a big tub as well as a shower. I’d ask for a high floor to maximise your views; and although you might be set on a Strip view, I’d actually go for a mountain view. The mountains north and east of the town are spectacular – seeing the sun rise from your bedroom would be incredible – whereas the back of the Strip is not so exciting (Strip views cost more, too).

Public areas

There aren’t a huge amount of these – the lobby is very chic but small – not for hanging around in. And that’s about your lot.

Eating and drinking

There’s a restaurant and a bar on-site, and a smoking area outside the bar. And, of course, you can cook in your room.

Leisure facilities

There’s a nice spa and a lovely pool deck on the fifth floor that looks towards the Strip.

Service

Very friendly. And despite its small size, there’s even a concierge, too.

Who stays there

Couples, families and people on longer stays who want the kitchenette facilities. It’s gay-friendly too.
