The Gran is very centrally located, just opposite the new marina area and a ten-minute walk from Talamanca beach or Ibiza town. I love that it’s literally just a stagger from Pacha… meaning there’s no need to clamour for taxis in the early hours and it’s more a walk of fame than shame. It’s also only a short cab ride from other clubs and beaches – a good holiday base. The only downside of this spot is that on the odd occasion you can smell drainage from the port, as the drain runs alongside the hotel.
Definitely the nicest rooms I’ve ever had the pleasure of sleeping in, decorated in earthy, warm tones. The beds are very comfy (and huge) plus you'll get loads of big fluffy pillows and crisp white sheets. All terraces have a view to the old town and despite the fact there are a whopping 157 suites here, they are discreetly enclosed so it feels really private. Penthouses have plunge pools on their terrace, for those looking to splurge.
It’s all sleek lines and glossy finishes but to me, the lounge and reception areas feel a little impersonal and vacuous – perhaps because of the sheer size and scale.
Eating and drinking
The hotel offers loads of different dining options. A formal dining room (more laidback for the breakfast buffet), a casual poolside snack bar, a modern restaurant and a fab rooftop cocktail bar where I've watched the sky change from blue to pink to purple as the sun set over Dalt Vila.
The pool itself is pretty small, but very cool – with a wave current machine so you can swim “laps” plus sunbeds actually immersed in water, I found myself needing to spend a few hours a day here to maximise my tan. The Open Spa is world-class, offering relaxing massages and beauty treatments, and also features a gym and yoga classes. Meanwhile, at the rear of the hotel is a full-scale casino – jackpot!
As to be expected in a five-star hotel, the service is fantastic, however I found it to be a little slow at reception when there were quite a few people waiting to check in. I guess that’s what happens when guests all arrive on the same flight.

Cosmopolitan types from all around the world, business travelers who have somehow ended up on a conference in Ibiza (lucky things!), supermodels and plenty of visiting international DJs and their obligatory groupies.
