Tucked away in a little side street between Figueretes and Playa D’en Bossa, it’s central, within walking distance to beaches, bars and Ibiza Town and, trust me, every single cab driver on the island knows where to find it.
Like a souped-up Miami motel! Every time I come here I feel like I’ve walked into an episode of The Jetsons – it’s that same retro-meets-modern feel, with cool patterned wallpaper and murals, bubble chairs, hip lighting, colourful padded headboards and of course, all the mod cons. Each room is different, and I like the top floor with its combination of sea view and pool view.
It’s all about the pool baby! People come from far and wide to have their photo taken by this iconic tub of water, which has DJs spinning Balearic beats all day long and can become as much of a party as the soundproofed after-hours bar deep within the hotel. Personally, I prefer the spa at the rear of the hotel, with its peaceful private sundeck and Jacuzzi.
Eating and drinking
Es Vive’s restaurant is one of my little secret pleasures when it comes to curing a hangover. The poolside menu is chock-full of tasty bites like fish and chips, burgers and pizzas, all of which I like to wash down with a spicy Bloody Mary from the bar. Inside, you’ll find American-style diner settings, and there’s a huge terrace area to eat al fresco beneath the palm trees.
There’s plenty of space at Es Vive, with multiple terrace areas, the pool and bar area but, be warned, there’s also a lot going on – it didn’t get the reputation of being a rock and roll hotel for nothing.
Spot on. The Es Vive team is hand-picked due to their island knowledge and all-round good natured-ness and nothing is too much of a hassle – simply ask, and you shall receive.
Who stays there
It’s an adults-only hotel so primarily a mid-20s to mid-40s British crowd – and these cats know how to party! Bring an open mind…
