Gay-friendly budget Ibiza hotel with the ultimate pool with a view and a fun, social scene.

Picturesque views and a pool in the sky are the main selling point of Hotel Cenit. It also scores major points as the most gay-friendly hotel in Ibiza. For me, I loved the social atmosphere by the pool and the OTT antics of many of the guests – an open mind is essential. Extra eye candy comes courtesy of all the buff bods – gay or straight, you can’t help but admire them.

Location

Perfectly placed on a hillside in Los Molinos, a 10-minute walk from both Ibiza town and Playa d’en Bossa. The views here can’t be beaten and Figueretes beach is just a brief stroll downhill.

Bedrooms

Basic studio style and typically decked out in Mediterranean shades of blue and yellow. My highlights are the quaint little terraces – hey, the chairs and table may just be plastic but the view and the breeze is worth a million bucks. But be sure to lock up while you sleep, as thieves are notorious for balcony-hopping here.

Public areas

A very dated, generic lobby offers one lone computer to check emails, and there’s also an area set aside for games, with a pool table. I didn’t ever see anyone use it – there are far better things to do in Ibiza!

Eating and drinking

The breakfast buffet looked dismal, but the snacks and cocktails at the pool bar were more than enough for me. I recommend stocking your fridge for convenience.

Leisure facilities

It feels as though you are in the sky and the view is so Mediterranean it could be in a TV commercial, what with all the white buildings, blue skies and hazy sky. It’s far form relaxing though – this is the social hub of the hotel, where new friends are made, hearts are broken and all the gossip of the previous night is rehashed in loud graphic detail. Like a super fun gay soap opera!

Service

I noticed, sadly, on more than one occasion (when people were complaining, for example) the reception staff speaking only in Spanish… and I know for a fact they’re all fluent in English. At all other times and to me, they were always pleasant and helpful.

Who stays there

It’s a predominantly gay clientele, hailing from all over the world and mostly between 20 and 40, plus the odd hetero traveller (like myself) who hasn’t picked up on the gay vibe when booking online. Very non-discriminatory, but definitely not for families. Don’t expect to meet the love of your life by the pool unless you’re a gay man!

Price advice

It’s all the little extras you’ll need to pay for – daily rates for use of the fridge, safe and air conditioning. I couldn’t live without any of these, so factor the cost into your budget, around 10 euros a day for the lot.
