This, sadly, isn’t the Bonnington’s strong point. While it is located in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, it’s important to note that this is not near Jumeirah, which is about a 20-minute taxi ride away. The ‘Lakes’ in the title, a manmade creation around a large area of high-rises, has yet to be filled in with water (it will soon, we’ve been assured). However, it’s just a short ride over the Sheikh Zayed Road from the Dubai Marina and Dubai Media City (the hotel provides a shuttle to the three nearest malls). There’s also a Metro stop nearby, which isn’t yet open.
There’s very much a modern and stylish feel running throughout the rooms, which blend light colours with dark wood furnishings. The basic Deluxe Room comes at 35sqm, which is a little smaller than most, but still packs in the usual elements comfortably, including rainfall shower in the en-suite.
The lobby is extremely light and marble-clad, with a similar modern design running throughout the rest of the hotel. Comfortable leather armchairs add to the English theme.
Eating and drinking
The Cavendish restaurant in the basement is a excellent blend of British and European flavours and, unlike many Dubai restaurants, doesn’t overcharge for its wines. It’s also where the excellent buffet breakfast is served (which, importantly, features real bacon, another Dubai rarity). For a nightcap or two, Healey’s Bar, laid out in plush marble, has become a very popular Dubai drinkery, especially for its weekly Ladies’ Night on a Wednesday.
Located on the 11th floor’s ‘Leisure Deck’, the pool is slickly designed with views across the area and, importantly, offers a good shade from the summer sun. There’s also a gym, steam room, sauna and Pool Bar.
Extremely helpful and happy to assist in making arrangements.
Who stays there
Despite not being beside a beach, The Bonnington has begun to attract a young tourist crowd and Western travellers wanting something a little different.
The starting price for a standard Deluxe Room doesn't include buffet breakfast (100 dirhams for two), but does include free airport pick up (from Terminal 3, 50 dirhams from Terminals 1 & 2), gym access with trainer and swimming classes (subject to availability), shuttles buses to malls and beaches, and three complimentary drinks for ladies at Healey's Bar on Wednesdays.
