Smack between the historic town of Felanitx with its excellent vineyards, the jaw-dropping Santuari de Sant Salvador that seems to rise out of the Serra de Llevant like a flying phoenix, and the beaches and marina of Cala d’Or.
A recent renovation has seen all 20 rooms here updated with pale, terracotta-tiled floors, polished wood beams and soft furnishings in shades of white and cream. All are a good size and have air conditioning and central heating, both of which have their advantages in the extremes of summer and winter. My only reservation is they need just a bit more stuff to make them cosy.
Wonderful gardens, a spacious pool area (note you have to leave a deposit for the towels which seems rather distrusting given the level of the place) and a pretty, twinkle-lit terrace restaurant, so more successful as a summer destination.
Eating and drinking
More upmarket than I’d have expected, offering Majorcan dishes updated with contemporary flair. Seafood is superb, as is the Thursday night barbecue through the summer months. It's a shame that breakfast seems a little underwhelming by comparison. Still, you won't go hungry, unless it's Monday when the restaurant is shut. Don't forget to plan ahead for this, there are plenty of nearby options.
For sporty families and couples this is a great base with several hiking trails leading straight off from the grounds, horse riding 15 minutes away, and plenty of nearby cultural sights - caves, monasteries, wineries - that are not bucket-and-spade oriented.
Friendly if not always quite so accommodating as it should be given the price.
Who stays there
Mature couples and families with young children. Mainly Germans, but some Brits and other Northern Europeans.
Extras, like towels for the pool, can add up. Make sure you know what’s included and what is not.
