Just up from the Marina Grande (but they’ll come and pick you up if you give them a call), JK is right on the seafront. There’s been a hotel on this site since 1885, possibly earlier, but nothing like this.
Gorgeous. Lots of pillows, some with fun (but tasteful) fur trim; some with four posters; all spacious (minimum 25 square metres); all with a view, either of a courtyard or the sea (obviously that sea view has a premium). The penthouse is the size of a small flat (50 square metres) and has its own panoramic terrace with fabulous sea views.
Everywhere is gorgeous and, as if to confirm it, there was a fashion shoot going on when I arrived. From the floral displays to the paintings to tastefully-arranged books, this is a hotel for ogling and then enjoying. The terrace looks out onto the lovely blue water.
Eating and drinking
Breakfasts are big and buffet-style, but if you fancy an omelette or a big fry-up, no problem. The restaurant is open all day; how’s that for luxurious? The prices are keen (starters start at 20 euros, fresh catch of the day €95/kg) but the menu is fresh and exciting. There’s also a bar area. If the credit car holds out, you might never leave…
The spa… it looks out onto the (heated) pool so if the sun is shining and you’re having a massage overlooking the blue, you’ll feel as you’ve gone to heaven. It was raining when I last left the spa, but I still felt on top of the world. For gym bunnies, there are all the machines you’d expect too – you also get that view.
Excellent. I had a few problems with my laptop during my last visit and every effort was made to fix it. There is always someone around to help. Gabriella is a real asset to the place – incredibly efficient but super-friendly too. Any kind of trip can be booked, including helicopter and boat transfers, walking tours with a guide, and tours around the island (including at night).
Who stays there
Honeymooners, fashion models, film stars, and those with big pockets.
Like a lot of hotels, JK Capri shuts over the winter season and will reopen on 20th April 2011.
