A hip hotel experience that doesn't hurt your wallet too badly.

I'll be absolutely honest, my first impressions of this urban hotel were not fabulous. You see, from the outside, this out-of-the-box hotel looks like nothing particularly special and it's on a cramped and busy street but once you're safely inside, it's a different story altogether. Part of the Protea Hotels group, the 200-plus room hotel meets a demand for young, urban, savvy travellers who want an unusual offering without the hefty price tag. And Fire & Ice delivers. It's aimed at a fast crowd, hence the zingy interiors and sporty theme (look out for the exterior climbing grips). It's really central and just up the road from Long Street and it also has some rather impressive views of the mountain.
