For travellers who prefer to do things their way, this style-driven aparthotel works.

This boutique-style apartment-based hotel is situated on a buzzing road in Gardens, a trendy suburb in the city. Cafés, boutiques and bars line the street where it's at and offer entertainment should that be what you're looking for. I'm impressed at the size and contemporary style of the apartments, each of which has kitchen facilities for doing your own thing or heating up takeaways, but they could do with a lick of paint to restore them to the swish impression they made when the hotel first opened a few years ago. This is ideal for travellers on the move.

Location

The location is perfect for city visitors - eateries, bars and the like are on your doorstep, there's a small mall around the corner and you can easily walk to the central business district should you wish to explore further or have business to attend to.

Bedrooms

The rooms (20 in total) are spacious, with the style driven Executive Suites consisting of a bedroom and bathroom mezzanine on one level and a lounge and kitchenette on the lower level. Attention to your comfort is key - you'll love the full-blown entertainment centre, iPod docking station and the in-room PC, with free broadband, which is a major plus for on-the-move guests. The bespoke Red Bull suite is a high energy, street art decorated urban space.

Public areas

These are limited to the downstairs reception and the world outside the hotel - there are plenty of places to kick back and relax on this buzzing street though.

Eating and drinking

Sign for breakfast at Greens (an all day affair) or enjoy the laid-back atmosphere here for supper (their gourmet burger is great). You can also charge lunch or dinner at Fat Cactus or Simply Asia to your room. Alternatively, order in and the friendly staff will make sure it gets to you (and offer their recommendations).

Leisure facilities

Ask about spa treatments at Wellness Warehouse in the Lifestyle Centre around the corner. The tailor-made tour packages combining various trusted operator's offerings come well recommended.

Service

The personal and upbeat service attitude is a pleasure.
