4 star hotel

You'll love the location in the heart of the city and its authentic antique-laced interior.

Housed in a sensitively restored historical townhouse in the centre of the city, this hotel lives up to its heritage name. Antiques abound, paint techniques suggest a time-worn patina and pretty details like chandeliers are easy on the eye - the addition of the occasional contemporary piece of South African artwork brings things straight into the 21st century. With a small but efficient team of staff, guests are encouraged to interact with the city and with a buzzing wine bar and numerous shops and eateries on the hotel's doorstep, this couldn't be easier. I love the home-from-home atmosphere and the no-fuss feeling of this small hotel.

Location

In the heart of the city, safe to walk to and from and in walking distance of many shops, restaurants and tourist sights.

Bedrooms

The spacious bedrooms are laced with antiques and hints of African charm. The entire hotel was refurbished a few years ago and the newer contemporary details (eg in the bathrooms) combine well with the high ceilings, oversized faded Persian rugs and antiquey details, from four poster beds to impressive wardrobes.

Public areas

Relax in the downstairs courtyard shared by Caveau wine bar and deli or share some quiet time on the upstairs Jacuzzi with its city and mountain views. There's also a charming lounge and library.

Eating and drinking

The breakfast buffet has all the expected cold offerings while there are cooked specialities too. Reservations can be made at any of the hotels on the square and in-room dining from these eateries can be arranged too. Picnic baskets are also available to order for outings.

The service here is personable but it can be stretched at times.
