A sparkling little gem of a hotel hidden in a side street in Benidorm’s old town.

I’m not sure what fetish Gema Perez had in mind when she designed this darling little hotel, but it was definitely one of the more pleasurable kind. I can’t remember finding a hotel of this size and style more harmoniously adapted to its position, and from the moment you walk into the sexy reception you know you are in for a pleasant surprise. Every single millimetre of the building has been put to perfect use, and being in a narrow street in the old town, with views of the backs of other houses, the designers worked a neat little trick with the windows in the public areas. They are covered over with thin layers of photographs from the 1950s, 60s and 70s taken by Quico, Gema’s father, so you look out over vistas of Benidorm before skyscrapers and crowds.

Location

Almost hidden in a side street off Benidorm’s main pedestrian shopping area in the old town. Five minutes walk from the beach and a saunter along the prom.

Bedrooms

I’ve never stayed in a hotel that has parquet on the walls as well as on the floor (it adapts perfectly as a bed head), but it works wonderfully with the white paintwork and touches of colour. Each floor has its own colour scheme, that even extends to the doors of the lift. The Superior Double is amazingly spacious for this size of hotel, with a comfortable sofa and a desk, as well as a king-size bed. Bathrooms are bright, colourful and spotless (as is the whole hotel) and a good selection of classy toiletries are provided for guests. The towels are very classy. All the bedrooms have a mini-bar with free soft drinks, which are topped up daily.

Public areas

The cleverly designed landings have created two lounge areas and two breakfast areas, each with a mini-bar with free soft drinks. If you see one empty just ask for it to be re-filled.

Eating and drinking

A well presented and selected buffet breakfast is included in the price. No other meals are offered, but within a few minutes walk you can be eating cuisine from almost anywhere in the world.

Very personal and friendly.
