Location

Alongside the main N332 Route National as it enters Altea from the north, and a fifteen-minute walk from the centre of this lovely coastal town.

Bedrooms

There isn’t really such a thing as a ‘standard’ room at the Villa Gadea, even though some of them bear that name. Decorated in light, comfortable shades of beige and cream, with fabrics and furnishing adding colourful highlights, there’s plenty of room to relax in all of them. Almost all of them have both a bathroom and a shower, but they all have a hydromassage shower. If you are feeling in an especially romantic/decadent mood, ask for a junior suite with a Jacuzzi bath on the terrace, where you can sit in the bubbles with a glass of bubbly in total privacy. Whichever room you book, make sure you ask for one overlooking the pool and gardens, as those at the front overlook a busy road. Some of the rooms have a sofa bed, and there are two bedrooms adapted for disabled people.

Public areas

The sumptuous lobby area, with its plants cascading from the first floor,is set out with seating areas of comfy sofas. The palm-filled gardens and pool terrace are beautifully set out for relaxing without bumping into your neighbours, while the salon lobby bar, furnished in Mediterranean-style cane chairs, is a pleasing place to take a pre-dinner cocktail.

Eating and drinking

The main hotel restaurant has a buffet service with an exceptionally high level of breakfast, and also serves lunch and dinner. A separate restaurant, with its own terrace offers an a-la-carte menu. From mid-March to mid-October, Palapa, a bar sit in the swimming pool is open.

Leisure facilities

If the gorgeous pool wasn’t enough, there is also a gym and wellness spa which offers a wide variety of treatments. Try the wonderful mud therapy. (The spa is a separate members only club, but hotel guests get special discounts.) You could try the Turkish, and Roman baths, the hammam, sauna and biothermic showers.

Service

Courteous and friendly.

Who stays there

Families, romantics, businessmen, all those who want to be away from ‘beachy’ crowds.
