Expert review of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari
A vast church with a breathtaking collection of masterpieces.
Better known simply as the 'Frari', this immense basilica – started in the 14th century by the Franciscan order – is a church with an art collection worthy of a great gallery. The vast 14th-century building contains Titian’s glorious 'Assumption' and his 'Madonna di Ca’ Pesaro', plus a moving 'Madonna and Child with Saints' by Giovanni Bellini.
