Best for Escapists - Expert review of Toronto Islands
The tiny cluster of islands were actually a peninsula until a 1858 storm. The islands are pretty much my favourite place to while away an afternoon - whether on the beaches on the lakeside, the couple of restaurants with their incredible skyline views on the cityside, or hanging out barbecuing near the beach. Centre Island is the busiest - a kids' amusement park, swan boats, pizza parlours and a petting zoo keep them entertained. If you're looking for a bit of quiet, head to Ward's Island or get the Centre Island ferry and walk ten minutes east — there's even a cute wee cafe and a nice restaurant in the old rectory.
