Expert review of Meštrović Gallery
Overlooking the sea, 2 km west of the old town, this delightful villa was designed by Ivan Meštrović as his summer residence in 1931. When he died in 1952, he bequeathed all his properties to the state. It's one of my favourite places in Split, so peaceful and elegant, set in gardens above the coast. On display are almost 200 of Meštrović's sculptures and reliefs, both indoors and out. The entrance ticket is also valid for the Holy Cross Chapel in the 17th-century Kaštelet complex, 100 m down the road at Šetalište Ivana Meštrovića 39, where you can see one of Meštrović’s most moving works: a cycle of New Testament bas-relief woodcarvings.
