Expert review of Sotogrande Marina
Just 16 kilometres north east of Gibraltar, this is the first port as yachts enter the Mediterranean from the Atlantic. It’s also arguably the most upmarket in this part of the world. The elegant development began in the 1960s and has become a buzzy community, known as “Little Venice” due to its canal of boutiques, bars and restaurants.
To me the marina, despite being firmly at the heart of Sotogrande and extremely cosmopolitan, still has a distinctive ‘village’ feel. Do as I do and enjoy a cold glass of something watching the sporty/wealthy types learn to sail or water ski in one of the many water sports academies based in the port.
Naturally, walking around and soaking up the rather smart atmosphere is free, but drinking and eating is not the cheapest. An average lunch and wine will cost around 40 euros.
