Europe’s largest botanical garden, featuring 12,000 different species of cactus.

It's certainly in the right location. Something about this sun-baked landscape in high summer reminds me of Mexico, exacerbated no doubt by the huge, sea of cacti that greet you on arrival. I find cacti satisfying because they have so much character especially the round, prickly ones that cluster together like alien extras on an episode of Dr. Who.

Price advice: 

Adults 7.50 euros, children under 12 4.20 euros.

Expert tips: 
There is little shade here, so coming first or last thing is best if you're visiting in high summer.
