Best for Romance - Expert review of Cala Varques

Off-the-beaten path, naturist beach near Porto Cristo.

If you like an all over tan Majorca has plenty of options, but this is one of my favourites in terms of getting away from the hoards. You have to park, then walk a good 10 minutes to reach it (or come by boat), which puts the vast majority off, and you’ll need to pack your own food and drinks since there are no amenities. It’s not ideal for the kids, but what you get in exchange is crystal clear water for nude bathing (turn right on arrival and head for the next cove along), clean, pearly white sand and 100 per cent peace and quiet. Bliss!

Expert tips:
Adventure-seekers might like to check out one of the sizeable caves carved into the cliffs here. Bring a torch and be warned: the water is freezing.
