Best for History - Expert review of City Sightseeing Tour

Easy transport and an interesting hop-on hop-off tour of Milan.

However much we may like to pretend that we are cool, we are hip, we are world travellers, that we are in the know, there are times when it is good to give in and be a tourist. For me, one of those times is when I meet an open-topped sightseeing bus. City Sightseeing runs two circular hop-on hop-off routes around Milan, each with 10 stops (with a few overlaps, so you can switch circuits). You can buy a ticket for one circuit or both for 24 hours, or a 72-hour version that also includes a trip to neighbouring Bergamo. It’s an excellent way to get around most of the main sights in the city or just stay on board for the whole circuit and listen to the excellent commentary. The ticket comes with headphones and you can plug in to eight languages. A circuit takes 90 minutes.

The company also runs walking tours, shopping tours, out of town excursions, and Milan by night tours.

Price advice:

Prices from 20 euros. Tickets are available on board or from hotels and travel agents.

Expert tips:
Even in summer, buses only go every 45 mins, so plan your timetable carefully.
