Expert review of Sé Cathedral

Lisbon's most ancient building dates almost a thousand years.

A grand fortress-like structure, this old cathedral was built in 1150 on the site of an old mosque (which has recently been excavated). Inside the building is distinctly Romanesque where you'll find some Gothic tombs and 13th-century cloisters. Outside, the gardens have been excavated to reveal Roman and Visigothic remains as well as parts of the former mosque wall.

Expert tips:
At sunset the building takes on a beautiful amber glow.
