Expert review of Convento do Carmo
Explore the grand ruins of this 15th-century Gothic church.
The roof of what was once Lisbon's most beautiful church collapsed on a crowd of worshipers during the 1755 earthquake. Today you'll still find the soaring unenclosed arches and pillars that remain. There's also an archaeological museum on-site, displaying a collection of European and Egyptian antiquities.
Price advice:
Entry is 2.50 euros, and free for children under 14.
Expert tips:
There's no roof, so it's not a site for rainy days.
