Expert review of Mirage volcano
First things first: yes, a fake erupting volcano on the Strip is obviously cheese central, but it's also extremely fun, and it's swiftly reaching Bellagio fountain levels of popularity among visitors, even being voted best manmade spectacle by local magazine Las Vegas Weekly.
During the day, the volcano - on the Strip outside the Mirage - acts as a lovely looking waterfall and fountain area, but at night, on the hour, it explodes into life, belching "fire", fumes and - somewhat more surprisingly - all to a soundtrack written by Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead. It's utterly over the top (it even has blasts of heat) but completely enjoyable - and after you're done with that, you can head next door to Treasure Island for their nightly pirates v pretty ladies extravaganza, The Sirens of TI.
