Best for First-time visitors - Expert review of Bellagio Fountains

The classic introduction to Vegas.

When you think Las Vegas, the Bellagio fountain display is up there with the welcome sign for iconic status. Before I came for the first time, I wasn't particularly interested, and I openly laughed at a friend who told me they were moving. But now I've seen them, I take it all back. The water display - choreographed to songs from classical to Rat Pack, from Sinatra to Celine Dion - is, weirdly moving, especially at dusk, as the neon on the Strip begins to crackle into life.

The shows take place regularly (see times above) and last for one song each time - so you have about three minutes to get your money shot.

Expert tips:
Most people watch the display from the Strip, which runs alongside the lake - but if you get a good position, it can be better watching from up high on one of the pedestrian bridges (try the one linking Bellagio to Bally's hotel). They're also glorious from Jasmine or Mon Ami Gabi restaurants.
The best time to catch them? I'd say dusk, when there's still enough light to appreciate them, but the neon is beginning to spark up on the Strip.

I agree Julia, "weirdly moving" is spot on. I was transfixed. I think I stood for an nearly hour once and caught four different shows. Breathtakingly-good.
