Expert review of Cumberland Pencil Museum
A child-friendly, wet-weather attraction.
I know what you're thinking. Pencils = boring, right?
Wrong. My five year old loved this quirky little museum. Some of the historcal exhibition passed her by but, overall, it's fun, hands on and surprisingly eductaional - did you know that graphite was first discovered in the nearby Borrowdale Valley in the early 1500s? Me either.
Check out the 25-ft-longest coloured pencil in the world, Keswick's most famous record breaker.
Price advice:
General admission is £3.75; child £2.50.
Expert tips:
The musuem hosts regular art workshops, especially during scholl holidays. It's free and first come, first served.
Instead, you’ll be intrigued the moment you step inside and learn that The Drawing Zone, where kids can get creative with every shade of pencil imaginable, is a great spot to fill in a rainy hour.
