Expert review of River Kent walk

Escape the crowds with a riverside stroll.

The banks of the River Kent in Kendal are a quiet, calming spot to escape the crowds, take a fresh-air-filled stroll and recharge the batteries.

For families, it's a place for little uns to run about and head for the nearby adventure playground next to a small iron bridge over the river.

For history fans, follow the trail of green-and-white signs, made by the Kendal Civic Society, for snippits of local history as you explore.

Expert tips:
Summer evenigs are the perfect time for a waterside stroll. Then head for a pint of local ale.
The river cuts through the middle of town but it's mainly locals who know about the walking path.
