Expert review of Kendal Museum

A treasure trove of lcoal history.

This sprawling collection of local hsitory, fossils, minerals and antiques dates from 1796.

It may appear a bit musty and dusty but it's a little piece of Lakeland histor preserved for posterity.

After World War One the museum was run by a series of honorary curators on behalf of the Town Council. One of these curators was a ceratin Alfred Wainwright, who went to write the best-selling pictorial guides.

Look out for a regular programme of events, talks and classes.

Price advice:

Free entry extended throughout 2011.

Expert tips:
Make a beeline for the Wainwright section for a brush with AW.
It's right next to the train station, so pop to kill time for a connection.
