Expert review of Yedikule Fortress

Little-visited fortress is a great starting point for exploring the old city walls.

Visitors who make the trek out to this fortress along the Marmara Sea will likely have its seven impressive towers and sweeping views all to themselves. Worth a visit in its own right, the fort is also a great place from which to embark on a trek along (and sometimes atop) the city’s Byzantine-era city walls, which extend 6.5 kilometres to the Golden Horn.

Price advice:

Regular admission is 5 lira.

Expert tips:
Yedikule is easily (and cheaply) reachable via the suburban train from Sirkeci.
