Best for Families - Expert review of Ocean Park
No Mickey Mouse - no worries. This theme park's the best.
Call me biased, but I'd say Ocean Park - Hong Kong designed and run - is far better than Walt Disney's place over on Lantau Island. For a start, the location is more dramatic, with the park's attractions spread over a small range of hills connected by a cable car. Secondly, its live animals (pandas, dolphins) - or rather blokes dressed up as such. And thirdly, there's a lack of that "corporate cookie cutter" that Disney wields with such spooky precision. Plus the rides are a lot scarier - I speak from experience having been forced to go on all of them by my daughter.
Price advice:
HK$250 for adults, HK$125 for children.
Expert tips:
Get here first thing to dodge the queues, and leave at least an hour before closing time for the same reason.
