Expert review of Central and Western Heritage Trail

Walk the walk and talk the talk: this is Hong Kong laid bare.

Stretching from Central to Western and as far as The Peak, this well sign-posted walking trail comes with a couple of minor provisos: don't try and do it all in one go, and expect - as this is one of the busiest parts of the city - there to be quite a lot of people about who will be in a hurry.

Detailed maps are available from the Leisure and Cultural Services Department website, and you can start the trail anywhere you fancy.

One especially notable site is the Tung Wah Hospital, built by wealthy Chinese merchants in late Victorian days to give themselves some leverage in the running of Hong Kong. Their strategy worked.

Expert tips:
Take time to enjoy this trail - especially in warmer months. You are rarely more than 50 metres from somewhere selling food or drink.
