Expert review of The People's Palace

Glasgow’s social history museum brings the city to life in a number of exhibits and film clips.

Built in 1898 on historic Glasgow Green – one of the city’s best green places and home to the photogenic McLennan Arch – the People’s Palace was originally constructed for the benefit of the working class of the east end of the city. With computer interactive displays, film clips, paintings, prints and photographs and a wealth of historic artefacts it's great fun for all the family. My personal favourite – and also the favourite of many locals – is Billy Connolly’s amazing 1970s banana boots.

Expert tips:
You may walk right past the Doulton Fountain at the front of the museum on the way in but stop for a moment: it’s the largest terracotta fountain in the world.
