Expert review of The Lighthouse

Scotland’s first dedicated centre to design and architecture is heaven for aficionados.

As one of the only centres in the world equally dedicated to design and architecture, the Lighthouse is a proverbial beacon – excuse the pun – for Scotland’s past and future design gurus. Central to this is Glasgow’s omnipresent architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The permanent Mackintosh Interpretation Centre explores his life and work, the highlight of which is the Helical Staircase, a state-of-the-art concertina contraption suspended from an original water tower allowing visitors to climb to the top of the tower to the external viewing gallery. Very cool indeed Mr Mackintosh.

Expert tips:
The Lighthouse can only be explored properly on a guided tour.
