Expert review of Pyramids of Güímar
Stepped pyramids and Tenerife's most enduring mystery.
When Thor Heyerdahl declared Tenerife's pyramids to be the missing link that proved his theory of human migratory patterns, Tenerife scoffed. But then the world scoffed when Heyerdahl said you could sail the Atlantic in a reed ship too...
I find this a fascinating place and don't buy into the 'old stones' theories of Tenerife farmers. Whether you subscribe to their authenticity or not, I consider the pyramids, museum and replicas of those famous reed ships well worth a visit.
Price advice:
Adults cost 10.40 euros, and children (9-12 years) 5.20 euros. Children under eight are free.
Expert tips:
Avoid Thurdays when the tour groups go.
Make time to watch the film of Heyerdahl's life and theories – it's excellent.
