Expert review of Lokrum
To avoid the crowds, take a 15-minute taxi-boat ride from Dubrovnik’s old harbour to the islet of Lokrum, east of the city walls. Footpaths lead through pinewoods and a 19th-century botanical garden, complete with tropical planting and strutting peacocks, to arrive at several decent little pebble beaches. In parts, the rocky coast plunges straight down into deep water, ideal for diving or jumping into the sea. Alternatively, you can swim in a small saltwater lake (usually a few degrees warmer than the open sea) or in the area reserved for nudists. There’s also a café serving drinks and snacks.
Taxi-boat, return ticket 40 kunas.
