Expert review of Lapad beach

Dubrovnik’s biggest and most popular beach .

If you’re staying in Dubrovnik and fancy a quick swim, Lapad beach is the obvious choice. Sitting in a sheltered bay, approached down a pleasant pedestrian-only promenade, this stretch of fine pebbles is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas for hire, showers and changing cabins, a restaurant and two cafes. The swimming area is cordoned off from boats and jet skis, and there’s a lifeguard on duty daily 9am-7pm in high season. It lies just a 15-minute bus ride from the old town, and nearby hotels include Hotel Splendid and the Valamar Dubrovnik President.

Price advice:

Entrance free; sun bed 25 kunas; umbrella 20 kunas.

Expert tips:
You can walk the perimeter of Lapad peninsular following a lovely coastal path, then stop here at the end for a swim.
