Expert review of Jumeirah Mosque
Given the amount of malls, bars and fast food joints, it's easy to forget that Dubai is a strictly Islamic city. A highly recommended way to experience the local culture away from the glitz and glamour is through a tour of the Jumeirah Mosque, the large , beautifully designed place of worship on the Jumeirah Beach Road. Conducted every Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 10am, the tours begin at the rear of the mosque and require no prior booking. They usually last around an hour and a half and will help give you a greater understanding of Islam. Alternatively, in the evening the mosque's outdoor lights come on, making it a perfect spot for a few photographs.
For the mosque tour, ladies should be covered - long skirts/trousers, long sleeves, scarf for the head - while gentlemen need to wear trousers plus t-shirt or shirt (not a vest, basically). You'll need to take your shoes off before entering the mosque.
Afterwards, the The Lime Tree Cafe is just a short stroll away.
The tour costs 10 dirhams per person.
