Expert review of South Lakes Wild Animal Park

The place for a full, family day out in the South Lakes.

A huge area split geographically between different continents, the park boasts enough animal attractions to keep kids busy for at least half a day.

For smaller children, I recommend a ride on the little train, which trundles past the lemurs and tigers from a safe distance.

Price advice:

Standard admission is £12.50; children £8.00.

The park has recently been offering admission for all children until Good Friday.

Expert tips:
The animals roam free around some sections, albeit under the supervision of staff. I think this can be scary for small children.
The Maki Restaurant has a good view of the giraffes but the food is pretty average. Pack a picnic to save a few pounds.
Try to time a visit with some of the feeding or talk times, such as the penguin supper at 3pm.
