Best for Families - Expert review of Chester Zoo
More than a million visitors wander around the zoo’s 11 miles of pathways and 500 acres of grounds every year. In the 1930s the founder realised his dream, after once stating: “when I have a zoo, it won't have any bars”. I can’t say I’m a massive fan of zoos, but these guys strive to provide habitats that are as natural as possible, and invest a huge amount in conservation activities.
The kids will love it – and will learn lots about the natural world thanks to the zoo’s family-friendly educational slant.
I kind of resent that the zoo fixes its prices throughout the year according to peak times (generally “high season” means the kids are off school), rather than seasonally. Prices range from £13.60 for adults and £9.90 for kids aged 3-15 during low season, to £16.90 and £12.45 respectively in high season. See the website for prices when you’re planning to visit.
