Expert review of Platja de Canadell

A perfect family beach with a touch of 19th century grandeur.

This is Calella de Palafrugell’s main beach and a big favourite with holidaying Catalans families. The sand is coarse but the water is wonderfully clear (this is a Blue Flag beach too) – perfect for a family afternoon out. What makes it really distinctive though are the 19th century villas on the promenade behind it. Looking back at the shore, you see the pretty, low rise buildings and the tall pines at either end - kind of like a Mediterranean Brighton with a bit more foliage. The town’s also got several good restaurants, so you won’t have to walk far for lunch or dinner.

Expert tips:
At the north end of the beach you can take the stone steps to the Cami de Ronda coastal footpath. Llafranc beach is about an hour's walk away and it's a lovely walk.
Buses run between Calella de Palafrugell and Palafrugell and Llafranc.
