Best for Families - Expert review of Yellowave
Sponsored by Nivea Sun, this brilliant venture has taken a quiet stretch of beach and transformed it into a buzzing open-air sports centre. Its giant sand pit is large enough for six professional-standard beach volleyball courts; if you’d like to have a go, you can book a training session or just hire a court for a knockabout. As the 2012 Olympics approach, I’m sure it’s going to get more and more popular.
Just about every sport beginning with “beach” can be played at Yellowave - not just volleyball and footvolley, but also beach soccer, beach rugby, beach frisbee and beachminton. Even if you’re not in an energetic mood, it’s worth visiting for the café. This beautifully designed 21st-century beach shack is very family-friendly, with a pleasant outside space featuring a kids’ climbing wall and enough sand to construct the mightiest of sandcastles.
Beach volleyball court hire costs £18 per hour.
