Best for History - Expert review of Brighton Museum and Art Gallery
Though rather overshadowed by its neighbours the Royal Pavilion and Brighton Dome, this interesting museum is worth a special trip. Like the Dome, it’s an ornate Regency building that once housed royal servants and horses but has been repeatedly re-modelled on the inside, most recently at the turn of the millennium.
Best known for its collections of 19th and 20th-century fashion, style and design, it also has an illuminating local history section and fun interactive displays for kids. I think it’s great that it’s free, as it merits several visits - and as it’s right in the centre of town, it’s easy to dip in and out.
It's free, except for special exhibitions.
