Relax in Bath’s thermal hot springs.

Locals will tell you that they hate the Thermae Bath Spa – mainly because it opened late and went millions of pounds over budget – but they are lying. Secretly we were all glad that we could swim in the Bath waters once again and even the modern glass fronted building somehow manages to fit in with the surroundings. Choose from the smaller open-air Cross Bath (1 1/2hour sessions, up to 12 people) or the main complex of the New Royal Baths, which includes a roof pool, large ‘Minerva’ indoor bath, steam rooms and a café/restaurant that serves decent grub and good vino.

Price advice: 

Prices for adults in the New Royal Baths start at £24 (two hours), £34 (four hours) and £54 (full day). An hour and a half in the Cross Bath costs £14.

Expert tips: 
Visit in the evening – it’s quieter and views of city at night are amazing from the rooftop pool.
If you eat in the restaurant you get time credited back onto your visit.
Spa sessions can’t be booked in advance unless you are in a group of eight plus.
Children under 16 are not permitted (under 12 in Cross Bath).
Bring your own towel and robe to save money.
Book spa treatments in advance (must be over 18).
Spa treatments include towel, robe and slipper hire.
