Best for Escapists - Expert review of Skyline Walk

See Bath’s beautiful skyline from the surrounding countryside.

Most people can do this beautiful circular six-mile skyline walk in less than two hours, but it took my friend and I more like five because we kept taking the wrong turning and walked very, very slowly. It is a great way to see the city from a lovely vantage point and can be accessed from the city centre. The skyline walk is well-signposted and passes through woodland and meadows, as well as the remains of an 18th Century folly at Sham Castle, an Iron Age hill fort, old Roman settlement and Prior Park gardens.

Expert tips:
Print off a map from the National Trust website or pick one up from the tourist office near the Abbey.
Take drinks and snacks to keep you going, pack an anorak as well.
Spring is a lovely time to do the walk, as is autumn when the trees are all changing colour.
You can take a sightseeing bus to Prior Park gardens and join from there.
