Expert review of Sagrada Família
The cloud-piercing spires of the Sagrada Família are a familiar sight to anyone who’s been to the city, or even spent time in an airport bookshop – it’s graced the cover of many a guidebook. Not everyone loves it, however (Picasso and Orwell were especially vociferous in their hatred of it), and its lack of straight lines, grotesquely bulbous carvings and curious creatures are not always easy on the eye. As a curiosity, however, it can’t be beat. Visit the museum to see the original models and plans, and the crypt where Gaudí is buried. A lift will whisk you up to the top of a spire, from where it is a vertiginous walk down.
