Best for Chilling out - Expert review of Parc de la Ciutadella
A verdant oasis for strolling, reading and generally relaxing in the Old City.
This prettily landscaped park was created when the hated citadel was pulled down, and is now a much needed green lung for the centre of town. As well as the Zoo, there’s a pretty boating lake, endless statuary, an ornate waterfall, which was one of the young Gaudí’s first projects, a palm house and a couple of playgrounds for small children. At the top end is a picnic area, although there are acres of well-kept grass to lounge on, and if you forget to bring provisions, the Drac Cafe is a useful watering hole.
